SABA KAWAS
I am a mixed-method researcher in Human-Computer Interaction and a designer with over a decade of experience. I combine community-based participatory research and design-based research methods with theory from psychology, human development, learning, and social sciences to envision and develop equity-focused sociotechnical interventions that address systemic social issues in education and health. I then evaluate these interventions using qualitative and quantitative methods in the real world.
Some of my projects are listed below, including investigating young adults’ mental health and emotion regulation, children’s interest in nature, joint family nature engagement, youth-connected learning, and accessibility in CS education.
My research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, Jacobs Foundation, Population Health Innovation Award, and Mircoshot Research. I am one of the Computing Research Association 2022 Computing Innovation Fellow.
